It’s official, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are now a family of four! The Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child — a baby girl — on Friday, June 4th, 2021.
An official announcement on behalf of the Sussexes’ press secretary read, “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”
The statement continued, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
Meghan and Harry also left a personal message on their Archewell website saying, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
The couple first announced Meghan’s second pregnancy on Valentine’s Day with a beautiful portrait captured by photographer Misan Harriman and taken in the couple’s Montecito, California backyard. They shared, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.” That was a special day to share the wonderful news because Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, announced her pregnancy with Harry on the same day three decades prior.

In March, during their interview with Oprah Winfrey, they revealed that they were expecting a baby girl. They also shared in their interview that they won’t have any more children after their baby girl’s arrival. Harry said, “Two is it.”
Harry and Meghan’s announcement also included a message of thanks, “The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
The couple has also noted that in lieu of gifts, they encouraged family, friends, and fans to donate to four charities dear to them: Girls Inc (here)., Harvest Home (here), CAMFED (here), or Myna Mahila Foundation (here).
