Having to co-parent can be tricky for some, and when you add the complexity that comes along when both parents are high-profile celebrities, sometimes things can be downright challenging. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like that’s true for exes Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid. Zayn recently opened up about how great life as a co-parent can be.
Zayn Malik Dishes About His Little Girl During Podcast Appearance
The single father appeared on Call Her Daddy recently, his first interview in six years, revealing how he and Gigi split custody of their toddler daughter.
While Zayne only gets to spend 50 percent of his time with Khai, he doesn’t let that get in the way of their strong relationship. It sounds like Zayn feels like the abbreviated schedule makes their moments much more meaningful.
“That time I have with her is so important because I feel like she’s grown up so fast,” he shares on the July 12 podcast episode. “When I’m with her, I don’t work. I just spend a full day with her doing the things that she wants to do, like painting, Play-Doh, this, that, go to the park, go to the theme park, go to the zoo, like we just have fun.”
Both Zayn Malik and Gigi Keep Khai’s Life Private
It’s unusual for Zayn Malik or Gigi Hadid to talk about their little girl publicly after all the effort they’ve put into keeping her out of the spotlight. While Gigi has a very active social media presence, she rarely posts photos of her little girl. And when she does, they almost always blur or hide Khai’s face.

This is intentional, according to Zayn, who says the former couple has consciously decided to raise their daughter in a “healthy” way, so she doesn’t have to deal with the cameras and curious fans unless she wants to once she’s older.
Both Khai’s Parents Celebrated Her Birth on Social Media
Gigi gushed over her little girl in an Instagram post from 2020 when she officially announced the birth of her daughter. “Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love🥺💕,” she wrote of Khai’s September arrival.

As for the proud papa, he shared the happy news on Twitter at the time, calling Khai “healthy & beautiful” while attempting to share how becoming a father had changed him.
“To try put into words how i am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love i feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding,” he wrote in part.” Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, & thankful for the life we will have together.”
While Gigi and Zayn love their daughter without exception, their relationship began to crumble soon after they became a family of three.
Zayn and Gigi Call It Quits In 2021
After nearly five years of dating, the pair ultimately decided to go their separate ways just over a year after Khai’s birth. That split was not without its complications. In October 2021, TMZ reported that Yolanda Hadid, Gigi’s mother, had accused the former One Direction star of assault, claiming the now 30-year-old had “struck” her.
Zayn Malik publicly denied the incident, once again putting the health and well-being of his daughter and his co-parenting relationship with her mother above all else, denying the attack and chastising Yolanda for taking her story to the media.
“This was and still should be a private matter, but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been ‘leaked’ to the press,” he wrote in part at the time.
It Seems Like Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid Have a Good Co-Parenting Relationship Now
Despite that bumpy start, Zayn Malik and Gigi have given Khai the co-parenting relationship they hoped for. We’re sure that makes things super easy for Khai as she comes up on her third birthday. We’re sure she’s feeling double the love thanks to this special arrangement between her mom and her dad.
