Meet The Baby Chick: Nina Spears

Hey, I’m Nina, The Baby Chick!®–Co-Founder and CEO of Baby Chick® and I am beyond thrilled to start this new adventure with all of you! I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about me, my passions, my experience, and what led me to create Baby Chick.

After receiving my degree from the University of Texas at Austin and being out in the working world for a little while, I quickly recognized that I needed to focus on the things that made me happy and follow my true passion, which is supporting and caring for others, particularly women and children. Since then I have helped hundreds of mothers throughout their pregnancies, births, and postpartum journeys. I have assisted over 200 mothers during their labors and births and have helped over 500 families as a baby planner, postpartum doula, massage therapist, educator (childbirth classes, newborn care classes, infant massage classes), and more. I have had the privilege of helping all of these families around the greater Houston, TX area with these services over the past seven years through my first company Bassett Baby Planning. Once starting this career path, people began to know me and say to me, “I’ve heard of you. You’re that baby chick that works with pregnant moms.” The nickname has now stuck and so people affectionately refer to me as “The Baby Chick®.”

With the knowledge and experience that I have gained over the years supporting women and families, I wanted to not only be able to inspire, educate, and uplift mothers in my area, but also do just that for mothers everywhere. I recognized this need and decided to create Baby Chick, LLC–focusing on the modern mom.

Motherhood is beautiful, rewarding, and amazing in so many ways, however, there are also times that I’ve seen when it feels overwhelming, exhausting, and at times lonely. At Baby Chick I want you to feel like you have a friend, a professional, and a place to go to that will uplift you and inspire you every step of the way so that we can remind you that you’re doing a great job and that you are not alone.

On a more personal level, I am an adoring wife to my husband, Brian (we got married July 4th, 2015 and he’s Baby Chick’s other Co-Founder), a mother to my beautiful son, Liam, I have two crazy fur babies, Lola and Aria (one is a Pomeranian and the other an Alaskan Klee Kai) and I am a first generation born and raised Texan and UT Texas Exes Alumna. When I’m not working with a client, supporting women, reviewing products, working on my businesses . . . (because obviously I never have enough on my plate, ha!) you can find me catching up with a girl friend or snuggled up on the couch with my hubby talking about ways that we can grow and improve Baby Chick.

I admire every mother that I have gotten to know and help and I am so grateful to say that I love the work that I do. Right now, taking care of all of our clients and customers is our focus. I feel honored to have assisted and continue to assist all the incredible families that I do.

    Dearest Nina,

I wanted to thank you for this article. It is very important for many women out there like me that are going through partner separation. I don’t exactly have a support system in place and it is very a very difficult situation. I’d love to have more of your ideas for support for someone that is more of a lone ranger and doesn’t have much family or friend support. I love your site… and again thank you for your insight.

    Inspired with renewed hope,
    Natalie M. Rios
