When expecting moms prepare for their baby, I often see that they get super into researching all the baby stuff. They research car seats. They compare strollers. They deep dive into monitors. They carefully choose cribs and mattresses. But there’s one piece I see pregnant women underestimate all the time . . . and it ends up being one of the most used items in the nursery:
The nursery chair.
A nursery glider is one of the most used pieces of furniture in the early postpartum months, especially during recovery and those long, around-the-clock feeding sessions.
In my 15+ years supporting over 800 families as a certified baby planner and postpartum doula, I’ve seen firsthand how much time mothers spend in their glider. In fact, did you know that parents spend around 1,800 hours in their glider during their baby’s first year? It makes sense when you think about it. In your glider, you’ll be feeding, rocking, recovering, bonding, soothing, and navigating all hours of the day and night with their babies. But a lot of times, I see families choose their nursery chair quickly, and sometimes based on aesthetics alone.
While there are many nursery chairs on the market, I always focus less on brand hype and more on function, support, and durability.
So when one of my baby planning clients recently asked me to help her choose a glider for her nursery, we went through her options, and she decided to go with the Nurture& Glider Plus. Today, I want to walk you through exactly why, share my honest thoughts on this glider, and explain what I personally look for when helping families choose a nursery glider. Because this is one investment you truly want to think through carefully.
Why the Nursery Glider Becomes “Station One”

The nursery glider is what I often call “Station One” (or sometimes “The Command Center”) because it is the primary hub where new mothers spend hours recovering and caring for their little ones as they try to convince their tiny humans that sleeping is a good idea. You’ll honestly spend much more time in it than you think.
Early motherhood usually looks like:
- Feeding every 2–3 hours
- Contact naps
- Rocking during fussy evenings
- Reading bedtime stories
- Sitting through sleep regressions
- Quiet, tender bonding moments
Through all of these times, your nursery chair quickly becomes your safe haven and a part of your daily rhythm as a parent. It’s not just a decorative piece in the room. It’s functional. It supports your body during recovery, especially if you’ve had a C-section, and it needs to support your back and shoulders during long feeding sessions.
That’s why I always encourage moms to really think proactively while pregnant, so they can choose a good chair that will support them in the future.
What to Look for in a High-Quality Nursery Chair
I will say that not all gliders are created equal. Over the years, I’ve tested many chairs — not only sitting in them with my own babies, but also rocking in them while supporting newborns, helping moms feed in them, observing posture, and noticing where discomfort builds up. I’ve sat in everything from traditional wooden rockers and basic rocker-gliders you find at big box stores, to oversized nursery recliners and more modern upholstered gliders. After spending so many hours in all these different types of chairs, you quickly notice which designs truly support a postpartum body and which leave parents with sore backs, tired arms, and poor posture during long feeding sessions.
This is why when I recommend a chair to families, I focus on its function. Here’s what I look for when choosing a glider for the nursery (and you should too):
1. Strong Lumbar and Neck Support

So many nursery chairs look beautiful, but they don’t always support your recovering postpartum body. Your spine, neck, and shoulders are under strain during this time as you hold and feed your baby all hours of the day (and night). Parents are shocked by how quickly their arms get tired and their body gets tight. This is why you want a chair that:
- Supports your lower back
- Protects your neck
- Encourages proper posture
- Doesn’t require constant repositioning

When I sat in the Nurture& Glider Plus, the first things I noticed were the power lumbar support and the power-adjustable headrest. These two features are HUGE! Most nursery chairs don’t offer these options, which is why I usually have to recommend a good lumbar pillow. These two adjustments can make a big difference in providing you with real support as you care for your little one. Also, if you and your partner are different heights, being able to adjust your chair to accommodate both.
2. Smooth, Supportive Motion

While rocking and soothing your baby, your chair’s movement should be quiet, smooth, and calming. You don’t want a chair that feels jerky, loud, or stiff.
When reviewing the Nurture& Glider Plus, we loved that it offers:
- Smooth, quiet glide — that won’t wake your baby
- 200° swivel — so you can turn to face the direction you need
- Power recline — because getting nap trapped happens, and sometimes you need to put your feet up
All of these combinations give you flexibility without straining your body to reposition, which is important during this time of recovery after birth, especially if you had a C-section. This is why I always pay attention to how a chair moves.

3. Designed for Postpartum Recovery
Speaking of postpartum, if you’ve had a C-section or are navigating core recovery, getting in and out of a chair can be a challenge.
I really like how this glider is designed with ease in mind, with supportive arm height, comfortable seat depth, and powered recline, so you’re not straining your abdominal muscles unnecessarily. That’s a detail many moms don’t think about until they’re experiencing it.
4. Fabric That Can Handle Real Life

Let’s be honest . . . Babies spit up. Moms leak. Toddlers spill. And life happens. That’s normal!
This is why it’s a good idea to pay attention to the fabric of the chair that you choose for your nursery. Lately, so many of my clients want light-colored gliders, which are beautiful; however, they’re not always practical when motherhood gets messy. If this is you, I recommend looking for a nursery chair made from clean, safe materials that resist moisture.
I really love how the LiveSmart® performance fabric on the Glider Plus is stain-resistant and moisture-repellent, which means spills bead up instead of soaking into your chair. As a mom, I appreciate anything that makes cleanup easier without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics. And as someone who has seen what daily wear looks like in a nursery, durability is a must!
5. Right Size and Scale for a Nursery

It may seem simple, but another thing I genuinely love about this chair is that it doesn’t feel oversized or overwhelming in a room. There are many chairs on the market that are beautiful but also huge.
Also, with so many features — power recline, lumbar support, adjustable headrest, swivel — it could easily feel bulky. But at 33.3 inches wide, it fits beautifully into most nursery layouts without dominating the room, which I appreciate.
As a baby planner, I’ve seen chairs that technically check the boxes but visually overpower the space. This one feels intentional, functional, and refined.
6. The Little Details That Actually Matter

There are small features in this glider that tell me real thought went into the design. For example, there’s a built-in USB-A/C charging port right next to the control buttons. If you’ve ever been nap-trapped under a sleeping baby with 3% battery left on your phone, you understand why this matters.
Being able to plug in without getting up feels like a small luxury, but in early motherhood, small conveniences make a big difference.
The assembly was also straightforward, which may not sound glamorous, but during those final weeks of pregnancy, simplicity is appreciated.
7. Safety & Non-Toxic Materials

Something else I am seeing more and more of (and love) is families prioritizing low-tox living and reducing unnecessary toxins in their homes. This is why I also look closely at materials and safety standards, especially when choosing large pieces for the home.
Nurture& products meet and exceed ASTM safety standards, use FSC certified wood, and avoid added fire-retardant chemicals. That level of transparency is something I personally value when recommending furniture to parents, especially in a baby’s room.
Designed for Life’s Real Moments

If you’re expecting, you’re already doing the best you can planning for life with your baby. You’re choosing safe sleep surfaces, researching feeding supplies, and building your registry as thoughtfully as possible.
But I want to remind you that while the baby is extremely important, you and your comfort and recovery matter, too. And your nursery chair will become part of your postpartum story. It’s almost like another home base. Make it one that gives you the support and comfort that you need so that you can care for your body as you care for your baby.
After testing it and helping my client put it into her home, the Glider Plus isn’t just built for newborn days. It’s something that you will use and will support you for years to come.
My Final Thoughts

As a doula, I’ve learned that even small environmental choices can shape a mother’s experience more than we expect.
It’s true that a supportive chair won’t eliminate sleep deprivation, and it won’t make newborn life effortless. However, it will make those long nights more comfortable. It will protect your body, make recovery more comfortable, and become part of your family’s daily routine. I believe the nursery chair is one of the most underrated investments on a registry, but also one of the most used pieces in the entire home with baby.
If you’re currently building your registry and want to explore the Nurture& Glider Plus, you can find it here.
You’re already planning and preparing so thoughtfully for your baby. Just make sure you’re preparing support for yourself, too.
