When I became a mother, I wanted to create magical Christmas memories for my kids. Before my first baby was even a year old, I was planning how to make this holiday season special for our little family. I have carried over many of the traditions that my parents began into my own holiday traditions. But there were other family Christmas traditions I decided to start with my children. One of those traditions was watching a Christmas movie and reading a Christmas book every night of December leading up to Christmas.

When my daughter was just a baby, I began collecting beautiful, funny, and classic Christmas stories that I would store in a basket near the tree. Each night, I have my kids choose one of the books from the basket and we snuggle in tight for a read-aloud. This tradition has become one of our favorites. And now that my kids are older, we’ve added watching Christmas movies to our favorite things to do this season. This tradition is fun, engaging, and meaningful for all of us.
