The Tit Kit: The First Aid Kit for Your Breastfeeding Boobs

We all know and have heard of the incredible benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies. Giving my child my liquid gold those first seven months of his life was amazing and well worth all the aches, pains, and late nights I experienced. I would do it all over again for him. My only wish is that I could have done it longer, but unfortunately we hit some bumps along the way. I know that I’m not alone. Chapped and cracked nipples are no joke. If you have flat or inverted nipples learning how to breastfeed may potentially be a bit more challenging in the beginning. And clogged milk ducts, mastitis, the feeling of major engorgement or a low milk supply . . . they’re a real pain in the boob. Finding resources and products that can help get through those tough times are key to helping mothers not give up and continue their breastfeeding journey.

We recently discovered a new company, The Tit Kit, and after reviewing their kit and all of their products, we are self-proclaiming The Tit Kit as “the first aid kit for breastfeeding boobs!” So if you’re lactating or are a soon-to-be breastfeeding mom, this is the kit you need to have in the house just in case anything arises. And if you’re not breastfeeding but know an expecting mom, it’s the perfect baby shower gift to give. Whether she uses only a few products or needs them all, it will be comforting for her to know that she has everything she needs if something comes up unexpected. Here’s what’s included in The Tit Kit and how it can help.

A Look Inside The Tit Kit

She Shells Breast Shells & Milk Reservoir

Breastfeeding mom placing in the she shells from The Tit Kit box.

If your nipples become chapped or cracked from all of the feedings, use the she shells from The Tit Kit. They protect your sensitive nipples and help them heal. They act as a buffer to avoid friction and further irritation. Just place the she shells between your nipples and your nursing bra and the ventilated design will give your nipples the breathability they need on those days that you need to wear a bra.

We also really like that they look natural under clothes. We were concerned that it would appear like you are wearing some type of contraption or padding over your already enlarged breasts. But nope, you can’t tell. 🙂 The soft silicone makes it comfortable to wear and, bonus, the she shells collect any milk that might leak! We know that every drop counts so it’s great that you can save your milk for a later feeding.

One last thing. If you have flat or inverted nipples, the she shells can be used to adjust those issues for better latching. The pressure around the areola can help protrude your nipple, which results in an easier latch for baby. So protect, collect and correct by using the she shells!

Nipwhip Coconut & Shea Nipple Cream

Mom testing out the Nipwhip from The Tit Kit.

Our nipples are a very sensitive part of the body. With all of the sucking and tugging that happens during feedings, we need to keep them moisturized to maintain a comfortable nursing experience. We had one of our breastfeeding moms try The Tit Kit’s nipwhip nipple butter and she said it’s “hands down the best nipple butter I’ve tried to date! It absorbs easily and is effective for chapped, sore and cracked nipples.” We give this product two thumbs up! It’s made in the USA, is anti-microbial and anti-fungal, is safe for mom and baby, and is made with all-natural ingredients:

  • Olive Oil – safe for ingestion and is moisturizing
  • Coconut Oil – contains natural anti-microbial properties
  • Shea Butter – gives nipwhip its “whippy” texture
  • Marshmallow Root – a natural anti-inflammatory
  • Calendula Flower – anti-inflammatory/fungal/microbial
  • Rosemary – an all-natural preservative

Just apply the nipwhip between feedings to help ease chaffing and irritation when breastfeeding starts to suck.

Hot Toddies Warming & Cooling Packs

The Hot Toddies from the Tit Kit

I will never forget the time I had a clogged milk duct that resulted in me getting mastitis. Ouch! It was painful for weeks! A great thing to do for this is to get a warm compress and place directly on the affected area of the breast. That’s exactly what these hot toddies are for. The silica pearls are designed for maximum heat and cold. However you need relief, you can get that with the hot toddies.

If you have a plugged milk duct, mastitis or are need help with your let-down, toss the hot toddies in the microwave for 10 seconds and place on the breast that needs support. On the other hand, if you are experiencing swelling, engorgement or pain, pop them in the freezer for two hours for relief.

I love that the hot toddies are reusable, are easy and comfortable to wear, that they have a soft cover to keep moms comfortable, and that the heat (or cold) does not touch the nipple (notice the hole cut out). Because no one wants something really hot or really cold touching their already hyper sensitive breastfeeding nipples. Bonus: it’s great to use while pumping to help with your milk flow!

Honeysuckles Hydrogel Nipple Pads

The honeysuckles hydrogel nipple packs from the Tit Kit

These honeysuckles hydrogel nipple pads are like magic! Our breastfeeding mama who tested these out said, “This was a treat! It’s like a moisturizing and revitalizing face mask for your nipples.” Even the girls need a little TLC, especially after weeks or months of a hungry baby nursing. So if you experience irritated nipples, these will soothe and heal. And unlike a nice face mask, these are reusable for up to 72 hours. Score!

These hydrogel pads are non-toxic and are formulated for discreet, soothing relief. They are extra absorbent to prevent leakage, and the hexagonal design contours to your breast so only you know they’re there. For cooling relief, put these in the refrigerator a few hours before using.

Side note: wash your breasts after wearing so not to transfer to baby.

Tapcaps Nipple Shields & Latching Aid

The tapcaps from the Tit Kit

These tapcaps are nice to have on hand just in case you need them. If you have sensitive or irritated nipples, these can help you still nurse while giving your nipples a little bit of a break.

If baby has a poor latch, this can help too. Nipple shields were designed for moms who are experiencing latch problems. The tapcap extends the nipple in an ideal position for breastfeeding, which allows your baby to easily find your nipple and feed effectively. This is especially helpful for premature babies. It helps them create suction and position the nipple in a way their mouths may not yet be strong enough to do themselves. In fact, research shows that milk consumption increases when a nipple shield is used with premature babies. And once your baby gains strength and skill, you can usually wean off the nipple shield.

Another thing tapcaps can help with is if you have flat or inverted nipples. Your baby may have a difficult time latching if you have flat or inverted nipples. The tapcaps are shaped like an extended nipple, which helps draw out your nipple and gives baby a larger area to latch onto ultimately making it easier to feed.

And one more thing, if you have an overactive letdown, these can help regulate your milk flow.

The tapcaps are made of BPA free silicon and they come in a carrying case in The Tit Kit, which is great for when you’re on the go. 🙂

Motherlode Lactation Support Formula

One of the biggest problems that I had when breastfeeding was a low milk supply. What’s great about The Tit Kit motherlode supplement is that it’s a convenient and easy way to get your serving of a lactation boost. This dietary lactation supplement is made with organic ingredients and is designed for maximum effectiveness.

Directions: Take 2-3 ml daily (1 full dropper is 1 ml), or as directed by your lactation professional. Make sure to shake well before using.

Ingredients: Fenugreek, Glycerin, Maple Syrup

Side note: The taste is strong so we recommend not taking it straight. Instead, mix it with your beverage or use while baking.

What else will you find in The Tit Kit? A large burp cloth. We love its absorbency!

The Tit Kit is really helping breastfeeding mamas one kit at a time. As you can tell, these aren’t your mama’s breastfeeding products. They’re premium products designed for modern moms to help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with nursing, which help mothers continue on with their breastfeeding journey in times when they might give up. Not only that, for every box sold, The Tit Kit donates a portion of proceeds to organizations that provide therapy, support, and an open ear to parents suffering from Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADS). That’s pretty amazing.

If you’re wondering if this is a subscription box, it’s not. The Tit Kit is a one time purchase that we believe new and expecting moms should check out. And if you’re looking for a gift just for the soon-to-be mom and not the baby, this is a great gift that she will thank you for.

Instagram post 18073051357163780 When it comes to clamping the cord, our mottos is "what's the rush?" The blood volume in the placenta and cord at the time of birth is BABY'S blood. It's simply mid-circulation in the placenta at the time of birth. It just makes sense to leave it be and let it finish its job.
No, the blood won't drain out of baby and go backwards into the placenta.
No, your baby is not more likely to get sick from jaundice.
Yes, your baby will still be getting oxygen while they figure out breathing, especially important if they need resuscitation.
Yes, your baby will have better iron levels for the first year of their life.
Look at how thick and engorged this cord still is at 4 and 18 minutes after baby was born. Just imagine how much blood baby would have lost if the cord had been clamped immediately, or at 60 seconds, 90 seconds, or 3 minutes! The placenta was expelled immediately before the 18 minute photo was taken. The pulse in the cord could still be felt even AFTER THE PLACENTA HAD BEEN DELIVERED! The cord was finally clamped and cut more than an hour after birth at 73 minutes. ❤️

Instagram post 17852562805720320 Loneliness is a real thing in new motherhood and I want to be sure we talk about this. It's okay to say, "I feel lonely." We normalize one another's experiences when we share the reality of our journey. It can be so isolating when we bring our small human home and our lives revolve around his/her care. We feel detached from the outside world. The monotony of new motherhood can be heavy.
.
Here are some tips to combat isolation:
.
1️⃣ Get outside when possible.
2️⃣ Video chat with friends/family.
3️⃣ Join a virtual group.
4️⃣ Invite someone to come over.
5️⃣ Find a local mom's group.
6️⃣ Listen to the radio or a podcast (it's interesting how this can make us feel connected with others)
7️⃣ Run an errand--even grabbing a coffee via drive-thru can feel good.
8️⃣ Get to know your neighbors.
What would you add to the list?
