I am not ashamed to admit that I know every word to every song to every Disney movie released since 1990. I am also not ashamed to admit that I bought every Disney movie on DVD even before I had kids. Judge me all you want, but I have been and always will be a huge Disney fan. So you will understand my excitement when I heard that Disney was coming out with a new streaming app, called Disney+ (or Disney Plus), that will put all the Disney movies, specials, and shows (among other amazing things) right at my fingertips. You better believe I pre-ordered that magic app the minute I could do so. There is NO SHAME in my game.
Of course, if you haven’t heard about the app yet, you’re probably a little confused. You also probably think I’m a little nuts (and you’re not wrong). So, I’m here to give you the lowdown on this fantastic new app that will probably be mine, and my kids go to streaming service from here on out!
What You Need to Know About Disney Plus
On November 12, 2019, Disney released their highly anticipated new streaming app. Here are all the details you need to know.
What is the Disney+ app?
Disney Plus is designed as the exclusive place to stream movies from Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney’s own studios. Disney is also ramping up its original shows and series (think The Descendants), which you will only be able to stream on their app.
Not only that, but Disney also owns Hulu and ESPN Plus and now offers all three streaming services in a bundle. Disney Plus is intended to rival the big kahuna of streaming: Netflix. With all that this app provides, I’d say they’re doing a good job. Disney movies will pretty much disappear from Netflix by the end of 2019.
What does it cost?
In the U.S., Disney Plus will cost $7 a month or $70 a year. However, if you subscribe to the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle, that will cost $13 a month. If you are already a Hulu subscriber, sign up with the same email address, and you will get credited with the Hulu amount every month. Plus, Disney teamed up with Verizon and are offering all Verizon Unlimited customers a free year of Disney Plus streaming service!
How does it work?
The following devices support Disney Plus streaming:
- Roku
- Apple (TV, iPad, iPhone)
- Android phones
- Xbox One
- PlayStation 4
- Amazon Fire TV
- Samsung smart TVs
- LG smart TVs
So now that you know the magic that awaits you and your kids on the Disney Plus streaming app, go here to sign up (especially if you’re already a Verizon Unlimited customer, you lucky ducks!). Happy streaming!
