How to Achieve the Perfect Newborn Lifestyle Session

newborn photography, family photography, how to get the perfect newborn session

Those first few weeks with baby fly by in a hurried, sleepless haze. The brand-new, itty bitty baby stage comes and goes in the blink of an eye. One day you are wondering if you will ever shower or eat a proper meal again, and then the next (seemingly) you are sending your baby off to kindergarten — fighting big, fat, ugly mama tears the whole way. Why not take an intentional moment to freeze time, and savor every beautiful little detail, before it passes you by forever? One of the best ways to do this, is to schedule a…

A Baby Chick Nursery Reveal: Welcome Brooklyn Olivia!

Monday, July 25, 2016 By Jessica Tomes

As soon as we found out we were having another baby girl, I could’t wait to get started on her nursery. We already had A TON of baby girl stuff. Obviously. Baby Brooklyn has two big sisters, so that’s kind of a given. However, that didn’t negate the fact that I wanted to create a special space for the newest (and quite possibly final) addition to our family. Most of the furniture we already owned — no need to reinvent the wheel, am I right? But I tried to put a new spin on the room with accessories and decor. Disclaimer:…

Fischer’s BIG Boy Room Reveal + Havenly Review

Wednesday, July 6, 2016 By Lanie Towsley

A few years ago, while expecting Fischer, one of my favorite items to check off on ‘The List’ was designing his nursery. The space where he would snuggle multiple times a day; where I’d rock him late into the night, and refuse to put him in his crib even long after he’d fallen asleep. The place where his imagination would run wild as we read stories about little blue engines, teddy bear picnics, and fish who wear hats. I dreamt about this room from the moment we found out he was a boy, and spent way too many hours at…

Weighing in on Hatch Baby

Wednesday, June 8, 2016 By Lanie Towsley

Almost three years ago our first son, Fischer, was born at seven pounds, 11 ounces, and seemed to be perfectly healthy. However, at his two week appointment it was discovered that he had not gained the appropriate amount of weight (babies should be back up to their birth weight by 10 – 14 days after birth), and as new parents we were confused, worried, and even blamed ourselves to some degree. Looking back, we know that there was nothing we could have done to prevent his weight loss or improve his weight gain, but getting him to where he needed…

Gender Neutral Nursery Inspiration

Monday, February 15, 2016 By Lanie Towsley

28 weeks ago, when “we” (really, it’s been my decision all along…) decided not to find out the gender of baby #2, I thought it would be so easy to design a gender-neutral nursery. You know, we’d stick with a neutral palette and just add color to it once baby arrives. I’ll be the first to admit…this is harder than I thought it would be. To help me create a feel for the nursery without knowing if I’m cookin’ a little miss or another little prince, I decided to use the strategy that a wedding-planning friend taught me, which is to choose three words that…

2016 Pantone Picks for Mom + Babe + Nursery

Monday, January 18, 2016 By Jessica Tomes

Do you follow Pantone’s color selections? Last year, Marsala reigned supreme. But this year, the members of the institute completely changed the rules of the game. In an unprecedented move, they chose two colors for 2016. And which two colors did they choose? Rose Quartz (baby pink) and Serenity (baby blue). According to Pantone, they chose these colors to remind people to seek “mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stress of modern day life.” We just could not get over the irony. (Three-fourths of the Baby Chick staff is currently expecting!) In honor of this timely selection, I thought…
